The student count for St. Johns County Public Schools on opening day Monday was 28,486, an increase of 908 students or 3.3 percent over last year’s first day number. During the past five years when many districts have seen sustained or declining enrollment, St. Johns County has continued to be one of the fastest growing counties in the state. Superintendent Dr. Joy Joyner called the first day of school amazing.
